The 6" x 1-1/2" Diamond Steel Hub Flat Grinding Wheel is a precision commercial-grade flat grinding wheel designed for fast stock removal, pre-forming cabochons, and leveling flat mineral surfaces. Built with a solid, balanced heavy steel hub and electroplated with premium monocrystalline diamond particles across a flat 1-1/2" face, this 6-inch wheel ensures zero rotational vibration, precise dimensional stability, and cool-running cutting performance on standard lapidary cabbing arbors.

Key Features

  • Precision-Machined Solid Steel Core: Heavy-duty solid steel core eliminates wheel flex, wobbling, and arbor deflection under intense grinding pressure.
  • Continuous Flat Face Profile: 1-1/2" wide flat abrasive contact area enables rapid planar leveling, edge chamfering, and sharp corner squaring.
  • High-Density Electroplated Diamond: Uniformly coated with sharp, industrial-grade monocrystalline diamond for rapid, aggressive material removal and long lifespan.
  • Universal 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Precision 1-inch center hole includes standard reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine shafts.
  • Complete Progressive Grit Selection: Available from aggressive 60 grit for fast roughing down to 600 grit for smooth, scratch-free pre-polish finishing.

Applications

  • Lapidary Cabbing & Pre-Forming: Rough pre-forming, girdle leveling, slab edge truing, and shaping on agate, jasper, jade, quartz, and petrified wood.
  • Glass Cold Working: Beveling flat glass panels, leveling bottle bottoms, grinding punties, and finishing fused glass artworks.
  • Ceramic & Porcelain Fabrication: Smoothing foot rings, correcting ceramic tiles, and planar grinding of fired stoneware.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Hub Material: Precision-Machined Seamless Solid Steel
  • Surface Profile: Flat Face
  • Bond Type: Precision Electroplated Diamond
  • Available Grits: 60, 80, 100, 180, 220, 320, 600
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with adequate water coolant to wash away mineral swarf, keep workpieces cool, and prevent diamond thermal degradation.
  • Apply light to moderate contact pressure; let the diamond matrix cut naturally without forcing the stone against the wheel.
  • Rinse thoroughly after each grinding session and dry completely before storage to protect the steel body and diamond bond.
