The 8" x 1-1/2" Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is a heavy-duty, industrial-grade grinding and preforming wheel engineered for commercial lapidary production, professional cabbing shops, and precision glass cold working. Unlike surface-plated wheels, this wheel features a full 5mm deep sintered diamond-impregnated bronze-metal matrix that continuously exposes fresh cutting diamond as it wears, offering decades of service life and aggressive, chip-free material removal on the hardest mineral and glass workpieces.

Key Features

  • Full 5mm Sintered Diamond Rim: Solid metal matrix impregnated with premium diamond abrasive throughout its entire 5mm working depth outlasts electroplated wheels up to 50 to 100 times.
  • Continuous Self-Sharpening Action: As the bronze/metal bond gradually wears during wet grinding, fresh, sharp diamond edges are continuously exposed to maintain consistent cutting speed.
  • Aggressive Stock Removal & True Cabbing Precision: Ideal for rapid gemstone preforming, slab edge beveling, and heavy glass waste reduction without surface glazing.
  • Precision-Balanced Solid Steel Core: Perfectly balanced machined core runs completely vibration-free, protecting machine bearings and ensuring precise hand control.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Precision Reducer Bushings: Includes high-grade bronze/nylon bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors seamlessly.

Applications

  • Hard Mineral & Gemstone Preforming: High-speed rough shaping of agate, jasper, quartz, sapphire, corundum, beryl, jadeite, and petrified wood.
  • Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Edge grinding, facet roughing, and bulk stock removal on art glass, thick crystal, and optical materials.
  • Technical Ceramics & Refractories: Precise shaping and dimensional grinding of alumina, silicon carbide, and technical ceramic components.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Diamond Rim Depth: 5 mm
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Sintered Bronze / Metal Bond Matrix
  • Available Grits: 60, 80, 100, 180, 220, 360, 600 Grit
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines & Dressing

  • Always operate with continuous, generous flood water coolant to lubricate the wheel, suppress dust, and flush metal swarf.
  • Apply light to moderate, consistent hand pressure; excessive force will not increase cutting speed and may cause premature matrix wear.
  • Periodic dressing with an aluminum oxide dressing stick (or silicon carbide stone) easily re-opens the matrix if the wheel becomes glazed or loaded with rock sediment.
