The 8" x 1-1/2" 60 Grit Diamond Plastic Hub Textured Grinding Wheel is a heavy-duty, high-capacity coarse shaping wheel designed for standard 8-inch vertical cabbing units and bench grinding machines. Built on a lightweight, vibration-absorbing molded plastic hub electroplated with high-concentration 60-grit monocrystalline diamonds in a cross-hatch textured grid, this wheel provides massive stock removal rates while preventing hydrodynamic hydroplaning and workpiece drag across agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramic, and art glass.

Key Features

  • Cross-Hatch Textured Diamond Pattern: Interrupted surface channels promote continuous water flow across the grinding interface, flushing away heavy swarf instantly and preventing diamond glazing.
  • Aggressive 60-Grit Diamond Electroplating: High-concentration monocrystalline diamonds deliver rapid stock removal, fast preforming, and uniform rough shaping without deep micro-fractures.
  • Expanded 8" Grinding Surface: Provides higher surface cutting speeds and increased grinding contact area compared to 6-inch wheels, accelerating heavy cabbing tasks.
  • Vibration-Damping Plastic Hub: Precision-molded plastic core absorbs rotational resonance, ensuring smooth, chatter-free operation at 1400–1800 RPM.
  • Reduced Workpiece Drag & Heat: The textured channels prevent stone suction and hydroplaning, keeping delicate glass and gemstones cool during heavy cuts.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Bored to 1" and supplied with precision bushing spacers to adapt seamlessly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.

Applications

  • Gemstone Preforming & Cabbing: Rapid stock removal, slab squaring, and rough dome contouring on large agate, jasper, quartz, petrified wood, and jade slabs.
  • Glass Cold Working & Heavy Beveling: Truing rough saw cuts, heavy edge grinding, and punty mark removal on thick art glass castings.
  • Ceramic & Specimen Sizing: Flattening large specimen bases, fossil slabs, and dense technical ceramics with rapid stock removal.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 60 Grit (Extra Coarse Shaping)
  • Core Material: High-Impact Molded Plastic Hub
  • Pattern: Cross-Hatch Textured / Interrupted Grid
  • Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with adequate continuous water coolant to keep the diamond cool and flush grinding swarf out of the textured channels.
  • Apply light to moderate hand pressure; allow the aggressive textured diamond grid to cut without forcing the workpiece.
  • Avoid concentrated grinding directly on sharp 90-degree corners to protect the electroplated edge rim.
