The 8" x 1-1/2" 60 Grit Diamond Resin Grinding Wheel (REZ Premium Soft Wheel) is engineered for rapid initial contouring, aggressive pre-forming, and coarse scratch removal on lapidary cabochons, glass cold working, and mineral specimens. Built with a high-density monocrystalline diamond matrix embedded in an advanced thermo-setting resin layer over an impact-absorbing closed-cell foam cushion, this versatile soft wheel conforms smoothly to curved contours, eliminating flat spots and harsh edge facets.
Key Features
- Closed-Cell Flexible Foam Cushion: Resilient cushion layer conforms naturally to convex cabochon domes and curved workpieces, preventing chatter marks and facet flats.
- Aggressive 60-Grit Resin Diamond Formulation: Formulated with premium industrial diamonds for rapid stock removal and fast smoothing of pre-formed blanks.
- Heavy-Duty Precision Plastic Hub: True-running, corrosion-proof composite hub guarantees balanced rotation and eliminates vibration at standard cabbing speeds.
- Standard 1-1/2" Working Surface: Popular 1-1/2" face width fits standard 8-inch cabbing machine arbor configurations and multi-wheel shaft setups.
- Superior Wet Grinding Life: Designed for continuous water coolant operation to maintain cool cutting, flush swarf, and prevent resin glazing.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Precision 1-inch bore supplied with reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" cabbing machine shafts.
Applications
- Lapidary Cabochon Shaping & Cabbing: Rapid contour shaping and dome refinement on agate, jasper, chalcedony, quartz, jade, and petrified wood.
- Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Smoothing edges, rounding rims, and blending cold-worked profiles on art glass and sculptural glasswork.
- Specimen Finishing: Initial face smoothing and pre-polishing on geological slabs, fossils, and mineral specimens.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 60 Grit (Coarse Shaping / Heavy Stock Removal)
- Bond Type: Resin Bond with Flexible Closed-Cell Cushion
- Hub Material: Precision Injection-Molded Polymer Core
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always use continuous water lubrication to flush ground slurry and keep the diamond-resin matrix cool.
- Apply light to moderate, uniform pressure across the wheel face; excessive force causes premature wheel wear without improving cutting speed.
- Keep workpieces moving continuously across the wheel to ensure even surface wear and maintain concentric wheel balance.
