The 8" x 1-1/2" Diamond Nova Resin Soft Grinding Wheel is a high-performance, extra-large diameter flexible lapidary cabbing wheel engineered for rapid scratch removal, pre-polishing, and precision contour finishing on gemstones, minerals, and studio glass. Combining an 8-inch diameter for greater surface speed and grinding area with a resilient, shock-absorbing resin bond matrix, this soft wheel delivers exceptionally smooth, flat-spot-free finishes on cabochons of all sizes.
Key Features
- Cushioned Resin-Bond Matrix: Flexible resin layer conforms naturally to curved cabochon domes, eliminating flat spots, micro-faceting, and chipping.
- Expanded 8" Grinding Diameter: Delivers higher SFPM (surface feet per minute) and a larger working surface than 6" wheels, smoothing large stones and glass projects with greater efficiency.
- Uniform Diamond Dispersion: Premium synthetic diamond particles are homogeneously distributed through the resin layer, providing consistent, repeatable cutting throughout wheel life.
- Seamless Scratch Elimination: Rapidly removes coarse grinding marks left by hard electroplated or sintered wheels, establishing a uniform satin pre-polish ready for final polish.
- Universal 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" standard lapidary machine shafts.
- Full Progressive Grit Range: Available from aggressive 60 grit for rapid smoothing up to 50,000 grit for mirror-like optical polishing.
Applications
- Lapidary Cabbing & Pre-Polishing: Smoothing and pre-polishing large agate, jasper, quartz, jade, turquoise, and opal cabochons.
- Glass Cold Working: Blending ground bevels, smoothing punty marks, and finishing fused glass artworks.
- Fossil & Mineral Specimen Finishing: Polishing curved faces of ammonites, petrified wood slabs, and contoured mineral specimens.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (203 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Hub Construction: High-Impact Balanced Composite Core with Resilient Foam Cushion
- Bond Type: Resilient Resin Bond Diamond Matrix
- Available Grits: 60, 140, 280, 325, 600, 1200, 3000, 8000, 14000, 50000
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with a continuous, steady water drip to lubricate the wheel face, flush mineral swarf, and prevent heat buildup.
- Apply light to gentle hand contact; excessive pressure does not increase cutting speed and may cause premature resin wear.
- Never dig sharp gemstone edges, points, or corners into the wheel surface to protect the resilient resin matrix from gouging.
