The 8" x 2" Diamond Nova Resin Soft Grinding Wheel is an extra-wide, commercial-capacity flexible lapidary cabbing wheel engineered for heavy-duty smoothing, rapid scratch removal, and high-efficiency pre-polishing across large gemstone slabs, mineral specimens, and studio glass. Featuring an expanded 2-inch working width and an 8-inch diameter, this cushioned resin-bonded diamond wheel covers significantly more surface area per pass, ensuring consistent curvature, zero flat spots, and seamless transitions to a mirror polish.

Key Features

  • Extra-Wide 2" Grinding Face: Broad 2-inch contact surface speeds up smoothing on wide mineral slabs, large cabochons, and architectural glass components.
  • High-Velocity 8" Diameter: Maximizes SFPM (surface feet per minute) for rapid, effortless cutting and reduced processing time.
  • Resilient Resin-Bond Cushioning: Conforms smoothly to curved workpieces, absorbing shock and eliminating chatter, chipping, and faceted flat spots.
  • Homogeneous Diamond Distribution: Uniformly embedded synthetic diamond abrasives continuously reveal fresh cutting facets as the wheel gently wears.
  • Universal 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" standard lapidary machine shafts.
  • Broad Progressive Grit Range: Available from aggressive 60 grit for fast contour smoothing up to 50,000 grit for brilliant optical pre-polishing.

Applications

  • Large Lapidary Cabbing & Slabs: Smoothing and pre-polishing oversized agate, jasper, quartz, jade, and petrified wood slabs.
  • Glass Cold Working & Art Glass: Beveling wide edges, blending cast glass contours, and polishing fused glass sculptures.
  • Fossil & Geode Preparation: Finishing curved display faces on ammonites, geodes, and decorative mineral carvings.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (203 mm)
  • Width: 2 inches (50.8 mm)
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Hub Construction: High-Impact Balanced Composite Core with Resilient Foam Cushion
  • Bond Type: Resilient Resin Bond Diamond Matrix
  • Available Grits: 60, 140, 280, 325, 600, 1200, 3000, 8000, 14000, 50000
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with a continuous, steady water drip to lubricate the wheel face, flush mineral swarf, and prevent heat buildup.
  • Apply light to gentle hand contact; excessive pressure does not increase cutting speed and may cause premature resin wear.
  • Never dig sharp gemstone edges, points, or corners into the wheel surface to protect the resilient resin matrix from gouging.
