The 8" x 1-1/2" 100 Grit Diamond Plastic Hub Textured Grinding Wheel is a heavy-duty intermediate shaping and stock removal wheel designed for standard 8-inch vertical cabbing units and bench grinding machines. Built on a lightweight, vibration-absorbing molded plastic hub electroplated with high-density 100-grit monocrystalline diamonds in a cross-hatch textured grid, this wheel provides rapid cutting action while preventing hydrodynamic hydroplaning and workpiece drag across agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramic, and art glass.
Key Features
- Cross-Hatch Textured Diamond Pattern: Interrupted surface channels promote continuous water coolant circulation across the contact patch, flushing away swarf instantly and preventing diamond glazing.
- Fast Intermediate 100-Grit Diamond Bond: Premium monocrystalline diamonds deliver rapid material removal while smoothing coarse saw cuts and rough grinding marks.
- Expanded 8" Grinding Surface: Provides higher surface cutting speeds and increased grinding contact area compared to 6-inch wheels, accelerating heavy cabbing tasks.
- Vibration-Damping Plastic Hub: Precision-molded plastic core absorbs operational vibration, ensuring smooth, chatter-free rotation at 1400–1800 RPM.
- Reduced Workpiece Drag & Heat: The textured pattern eliminates stone suction and hydroplaning, keeping heat-sensitive materials cool during continuous grinding.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Bored to 1" and supplied with precision bushing spacers to adapt seamlessly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.
Applications
- Gemstone Preforming & Cabbing: Refining rough preforms, truing slab girdles, and establishing smooth dome contours on agate, jasper, quartz, and jade.
- Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Truing saw cuts, edge beveling, and smoothing cold-worked art glass components.
- Ceramic & Specimen Sizing: Flattening specimen bases, fossil slabs, and dense technical ceramics with uniform control.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 100 Grit (Intermediate Shaping)
- Core Material: High-Impact Molded Plastic Hub
- Pattern: Cross-Hatch Textured / Interrupted Grid
- Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with adequate continuous water coolant to keep the diamond cool and flush grinding swarf out of the textured channels.
- Apply light to moderate hand pressure; allow the aggressive textured diamond grid to cut without forcing the workpiece.
- Avoid concentrated grinding directly on sharp 90-degree corners to protect the electroplated edge rim.
