The 8" x 1-1/2" 180 Grit Diamond Plastic Hub Textured Grinding Wheel is a versatile medium-grit shaping and pre-finishing wheel designed for standard 8-inch vertical cabbing units and bench grinding machines. Built on a lightweight, vibration-absorbing molded plastic hub electroplated with high-density 180-grit monocrystalline diamonds in a cross-hatch textured grid, this wheel provides controlled material removal while eliminating hydrodynamic hydroplaning and workpiece drag across agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramic, and art glass.
Key Features
- Cross-Hatch Textured Diamond Pattern: Interrupted surface grid facilitates continuous water coolant flow across the contact patch, flushing away swarf instantly and preventing diamond glazing.
- Consistent 180-Grit Diamond Electroplating: Uniform monocrystalline diamond distribution smooths coarse grinding marks and prepares surfaces for resin-bond smoothing wheels.
- Expanded 8" Grinding Surface: Provides higher surface cutting speeds and increased grinding contact area compared to 6-inch wheels, accelerating intermediate pre-finishing.
- Vibration-Damping Plastic Hub: Precision-molded plastic core absorbs rotational resonance, ensuring smooth, chatter-free operation at 1400–1800 RPM.
- Reduced Workpiece Drag & Heat: The textured channels eliminate stone suction and hydroplaning, keeping delicate glass and gemstones cool during continuous grinding.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Bored to 1" and supplied with precision bushing spacers to adapt seamlessly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.
Applications
- Gemstone Pre-Finishing & Cabbing: Smoothing preformed cabochons, refining dome curvatures, and preparing girdles on agate, jasper, turquoise, and quartz.
- Glass Cold Working & Edge Smoothing: Refining beveled edges, smoothing saw cuts, and removing surface scratches on art glass.
- Ceramic & Mineral Refining: Precision contouring and surface leveling on specimen bases and technical ceramics.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 180 Grit (Medium Shaping / Pre-Finishing)
- Core Material: High-Impact Molded Plastic Hub
- Pattern: Cross-Hatch Textured / Interrupted Grid
- Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with adequate continuous water coolant to keep the diamond cool and flush grinding swarf out of the textured channels.
- Apply light to moderate hand pressure; allow the aggressive textured diamond grid to cut without forcing the workpiece.
- Avoid concentrated grinding directly on sharp 90-degree corners to protect the electroplated edge rim.
