The 8" x 1-1/2" 100 Grit Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is a continuous-rim commercial shaping wheel engineered for standard 8-inch lapidary cabbing machines, production gemstone preforming, and precision glass cold working. Featuring a solid 5mm deep continuous sintered diamond matrix bonded with durable bronze alloy, this wheel bridges coarse 60/80-grit roughing with fine pre-polishing. It rapidly eliminates deep saw marks and coarse gouges while allowing lapidaries to hold precise cabochon girdles and uniform surface planes across agates, jaspers, quartz, jade, and art glass.
Key Features
- Full 5mm Sintered Diamond Rim: High-density 100-grit monocrystalline diamond abrasive is integrated throughout a solid 5mm metal matrix layer for years of continuous, heavy-duty workshop performance.
- Balanced Stock Removal & Smooth Contouring: Quickly removes coarse scratch lines while maintaining chip-resistant, accurate gemstone profiles and smooth glass bevels.
- Continuous Self-Sharpening Cutting Action: Controlled matrix erosion constantly exposes fresh, sharp diamond crystals across the entire lifespan of the tool.
- Precision-Balanced Steel Core: Machined steel hub delivers smooth, vibration-free rotation at standard cabbing speeds (1400–1800 RPM), protecting motor arbor bearings and ensuring clean grinding contact.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushing adapters to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors seamlessly.
Applications
- Intermediate Gemstone Shaping: Refining primary cabochon silhouettes and smoothing coarse gouges on agate, jasper, jade, quartz, and petrified wood.
- Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Truing sawed glass borders, edge beveling, and smoothing cold-worked art glass components.
- Mineral Specimen Prep: Pre-polishing flat faces and squaring edges on slabs and mineral specimens prior to resin smoothing.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 100 Grit (Intermediate Shaping)
- Diamond Layer Depth: 5 mm
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Bond Type: Sintered Metal (Bronze Matrix)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with continuous, generous flood water cooling to flush rock swarf, suppress dust, and prevent diamond matrix glazing.
- Use light to moderate hand contact; allow the sharp diamond particles to grind without forcing the workpiece.
- Dress periodically with an abrasive dressing stone to maintain peak cutting speed and true rim flatness.
