The 6" x 1-1/2" 220 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is a precision intermediate smoothing wheel engineered for 6-inch vertical cabbing units and flat grinding machinery. Built with a solid precision-turned steel hub electroplated with high-grade 220-grit monocrystalline diamonds, this wheel provides fine stock removal while eliminating scratches left by coarser 80- and 100-grit grinding passes. It delivers a refined, uniform satin finish across agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramics, and art glass, perfectly bridging rough shaping and fine resin-wheel sanding.
Key Features
- Solid Steel Core Balance: Precision-turned rigid steel construction ensures true, vibration-free rotation at 1400–1800 RPM, eliminating flat spots and protecting spindle bearings.
- Uniform Electroplated Diamond Coating: High-density 220-grit diamond matrix ensures smooth cutting action with long service life and high resistance to peeling.
- Fine Scratch Erasure & Smoothing: Quickly flattens ridges and erases deep gouges, delivering an even, smooth texture across stones and glass edges.
- Precision Flat Edge: Keeps strict planar accuracy across its 1-1/2" wide face for trueing slabs, cabochon backs, and crisp bevels.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushings to adapt the 1" arbor to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" motor shafts.
Applications
- Cabochon Smoothing & Pre-Polishing: Smoothing preformed cabochon crowns and truing girdles on agate, jasper, chalcedony, and quartz.
- Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Edge-smoothing and seaming on sawed stained glass, fused glass, and architectural glass edges.
- Mineral Specimen Prep: Finishing flat display slabs, geode windows, and fossil sections prior to polishing.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 6 inches (150 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 220 Grit (Fine Smoothing)
- Core Material: Solid Steel
- Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always supply adequate water lubrication to cool the workpiece and wash away grinding swarf.
- Use light, consistent pressure; allow the diamonds to cut without forcing the stone against the wheel.
- Avoid point grinding on wheel corners to maintain edge diamond integrity.
