The 8" x 1-1/2" 100 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is a precision-engineered electroplated shaping wheel designed for standard 8-inch lapidary cabbing machines, production cabochon preforming, and fine glass cold working. Built with a balanced composite core and an electroplated 100-grit monocrystalline diamond cutting surface, this wheel serves as the perfect intermediate stage between coarse grinding and fine resin sanding, quickly erasing deep saw and 60/80-grit scratches while preserving stone contours.

Key Features

  • Precision 100 Grit Diamond Surface: High-density electroplated diamond abrasive delivers controlled, chip-resistant grinding across agates, jaspers, quartz, jade, and petrified wood.
  • Precision-Balanced Hub Construction: Eliminates vibration, wobble, and bearing strain at operating speeds, ensuring uniform stone contact and operator comfort.
  • Expansive 1-1/2" Flat Face: Provides a broad, flat grinding plane that makes squaring cabochon preform girdles, beveling slab perimeters, and leveling mineral backs fast and consistent.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushings to adapt effortlessly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.

Applications

  • Intermediate Cabochon Shaping: Refining preform profiles and smoothing coarse gouges on gemstones prior to stepping into resin pre-polishing wheels.
  • Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Truing sawed glass borders, edge beveling, and smoothing cold-worked art glass components.
  • Mineral Specimen Finishing: Flattening display backs and preparing flat mineral specimens for progressive fine polishing.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 100 Grit (Intermediate Shaping)
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Heavy-Duty Nickel Electroplated Diamond
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with continuous, generous water cooling to lubricate the wheel, suppress dust, and flush stone swarf.
  • Use light to moderate hand contact; allow the sharp diamond particles to grind without forcing the workpiece.
  • Rinse and dry the wheel after use to maintain abrasive cleanliness and long service life.
