The 8" x 1-1/2" 80 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is a heavy-duty electroplated roughing wheel engineered for standard 8-inch lapidary cabbing units, commercial gemstone production, and glass cold working. Manufactured with a true-running composite hub and an electroplated 80-grit monocrystalline diamond surface, this wheel combines aggressive stock removal with precise edge control across agates, jaspers, quartz, petrified wood, and art glass without excessive subsurface stone damage.
Key Features
- Coarse 80 Grit Diamond Coating: Uniformly bonded monocrystalline diamond abrasive delivers rapid stock reduction while maintaining smooth, chip-free contours on hard gemstones.
- Precision-Balanced Hub Construction: Eliminates vibration and shaft runout at operational cabbing speeds, protecting machine arbor bearings and ensuring clean grinding contact.
- Expansive 1-1/2" Flat Grinding Face: True flat rim geometry provides generous surface area for squaring cabochon preform girdles, beveling slab edges, and truing mineral specimen backs.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushings to adapt smoothly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.
Applications
- Gemstone Preforming & Cabbing: Establishing primary dome geometry and outer silhouettes on agate, jasper, jade, quartz, and petrified wood.
- Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Truing saw-cut edges, smoothing sharp corners, and leveling thick art glass or bottle bases.
- Mineral Specimen Squaring: Flattening geode slices, fossil displays, and hard rock specimens before secondary sanding stages.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 80 Grit (Coarse Shaping)
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Bond Type: Heavy-Duty Nickel Electroplated Diamond
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Operate with continuous flood water cooling to keep the workpiece cool, suppress airborne dust, and flush stone swarf away.
- Use moderate, consistent hand pressure; let the electroplated diamond abrasive cut freely without heavy crowding.
- Rinse clean and dry thoroughly after operation to keep the cutting surface and hub in top condition.
