The 8" x 1-1/2" 60 Grit Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is an industrial-duty roughing wheel engineered for standard 8-inch lapidary cabbing machines, heavy gemstone preforming, and structural glass cold working. Featuring a 5mm deep solid sintered diamond-and-metal matrix, this coarse wheel aggressively strips bulk stone and flattens rough slabs with tremendous efficiency. Unlike electroplated wheels whose cutting surfaces are exhausted once the thin outer plating wears off, this metal-bonded wheel maintains continuous cutting power and self-sharpening diamond exposure throughout its entire 5mm working depth.

Key Features

  • Full 5mm Sintered Diamond Layer: Coarse 60-grit monocrystalline diamond abrasive is integrated throughout a thick bronze metal bond layer for extreme operational lifespan in commercial production environments.
  • Continuous High-Velocity Stock Removal: Aggressive cutting dynamics quickly hog off waste material, shape large cabochon silhouettes, and true thick mineral slabs.
  • Self-Sharpening & Dressable: Controlled matrix breakdown continuously introduces fresh, unrounded diamond crystals. Can be dressed periodically with an abrasive stick to eliminate glazing.
  • Precision-Balanced Steel Core: Solid steel hub ensures true, smooth rotation at 1400–1800 RPM, preventing machine vibration, shaft chatter, and uneven wheel wear.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors seamlessly.

Applications

  • Heavy Gemstone Preforming: Rapidly establishing primary contours on large agates, jaspers, quartz slabs, petrified wood, and chert (Mohs 6.5–9).
  • Commercial Glass Shaping: Fast stock removal, leveling thick cast glass slabs, and edging stained or fused glass panels.
  • Specimen Back-Flattening: Squaring thick geode slices, mineral displays, and fossil bases prior to progressive finer grinding.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 60 Grit (Extra Coarse Roughing)
  • Diamond Layer Depth: 5 mm
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Sintered Metal (Bronze Matrix)
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with continuous, generous flood water cooling to flush heavy rock slurry, suppress airborne dust, and prevent diamond thermal damage.
  • Let the heavy-duty diamond abrasive do the cutting; apply steady, moderate hand contact without forcing or jamming the stone into the face.
  • Clean and dry the wheel after use to protect the hub and diamond bond integrity.
