The 6" x 1-1/2" Diamond Plastic Hub Flat Grinding Wheel is a precision-engineered, lightweight electroplated hard wheel designed for commercial lapidary cabbing machines, gemstone preforming, and precision glass cold working. Manufactured with a high-impact, balanced precision-molded plastic hub and a uniform electroplated monocrystalline diamond cutting surface, this wheel provides aggressive stock removal, rapid beveling, and flat contour shaping across agates, jaspers, quartz, petrified wood, and art glass with minimal spindle fatigue.

Key Features

  • Precision-Molded High-Impact Plastic Hub: Lightweight construction significantly reduces motor startup torque and rotational vibration, ensuring smooth, chatter-free operation.
  • Dense Monocrystalline Diamond Coating: Uniformly bonded diamond particles deliver fast, clean cutting action and extended service life on hard gemstones and glass.
  • Rigid Flat Grinding Profile: Maintains a true flat face across its full 1-1/2" width, ideal for flattening cabochon backs, squaring preforms, and facet beveling.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" shafts on standard lapidary machines.
  • Complete Grit Progression: Available from coarse roughing (46, 60, 80 Grit) through intermediate smoothing (100, 180, 220 Grit) to fine pre-polish preparation (320, 600 Grit).

Applications

  • Lapidary Cabbing & Preforming: Rapid rough shaping, contouring, and back flattening on agate, jasper, quartz, jade, and petrified wood.
  • Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Edge grinding, facet grinding, and rapid stock removal on art glass, crystal, and fused glass pieces.
  • Ceramic & Mineral Specimen Shaping: Precision flattening and squaring of technical ceramics, geode halves, and mineral collector display pieces.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Hub Material: High-Impact Precision-Molded Engineered Composite/Plastic
  • Bond Type: High-Strength Nickel Electroplated Diamond
  • Available Grits: 46, 60, 80, 100, 180, 220, 320, 600 Grit
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with continuous, generous flood water coolant to lubricate the wheel, suppress dust, and flush rock swarf.
  • Apply light to moderate hand contact; allow the diamond abrasive to grind naturally without excessive pushing.
  • Store dry and clean after use to keep the diamond abrasive face in optimal cutting condition.
