The 8" x 2" 60 Grit Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is a heavy-duty, ultra-durable lapidary grinding wheel built for maximum material removal, initial rough stock shaping, and aggressive bulk trimming on tough gemstones, glass, and technical ceramics. Unlike standard electroplated wheels with only a surface layer of diamonds, this wheel features a full 5mm deep solid metal-bonded diamond matrix. As the wheel wears during use, fresh diamond crystals are continuously exposed, delivering consistent cutting performance and extraordinary working life across demanding shop environments.
Key Features
- 5mm Deep Solid Sintered Matrix: Fully impregnated metal-diamond rim provides years of dependable service and far outlasts electroplated alternatives.
- Self-Sharpening Cutting Action: Continuous exposure of fresh diamond points ensures smooth, uniform stock removal with minimal chipping.
- Solid Balanced Core: Heavy-duty core provides true concentric rotation and vibration-free grinding at standard cabbing speeds.
- Wide 2" Grinding Face: Broad profile accommodates larger slabs, wide cabochons, and extensive architectural glass projects.
- Full Lifespan Dressability: Easily redressed using an aluminum oxide or silicon carbide dressing stick to unmask fresh cutting points whenever necessary.
- Universal 1" Arbor Bore: Standard 1-inch inner bore supplied with reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine shafts.
Applications
- Lapidary & Gemstone Cabbing: Aggressive primary roughing, fast stock removal, and pre-forming of tough agates, jaspers, petrified wood, quartz, and jade.
- Glass Cold Working: Rapid heavy stock removal, slab flattening, and edge roughing on thick cast glass and sculptural work.
- Ceramic & Hard Materials: Fast shaping and stock hogging on dense refractory ceramics, porcelain, and mineral specimens.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 2 inches (50 mm)
- Diamond Rim Depth: 5 mm
- Grit: 60 Grit (Extra Coarse / Maximum Material Removal)
- Bond Type: Sintered Metal Bond
- Abrasive Material: Industrial Diamond
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Continuous Wet Coolant Required: Always operate with adequate water flow to flush grinding slurry and maintain cool cutting temperatures.
- Apply light, steady workpiece pressure; allowing the diamond abrasive to cut freely prevents rim grooving.
- Traverse workpieces evenly across the wheel width to promote flat, concentric wear across the matrix face.
- Dress periodically with a dressing stick when cutting rate slows or after extensive processing of softer stones.
