The 6 in Diamond Channel Faceting Lap is an advanced lapidary lap designed specifically for precision gemstone faceting, contour grinding, and fine pre-polishing. Engineered with an innovative interrupted-surface channel pattern, diamond abrasive plateaus are separated by dedicated recessed channels that actively channel away swarf and coolant during wet grinding. Pre-mounted on a precision-machined aluminum master lap, it delivers true, wobble-free rotation on standard 1/2" arbor faceting machines.

Key Features

  • Continuous Slurry Clearance: Recessed channel pattern continuously whisks away mineral slurry and cutting debris, preventing wheel loading and glazing while sustaining maximum cutting speed.
  • Pre-Mounted Aluminum Master Base: Bonded directly to a balanced, rigid aluminum master lap for maximum stability, flat reference planes, and true running without flex.
  • Precision Electroplated Diamond: High-density, uniformly distributed industrial diamond grit provides aggressive material removal and predictable, repeatable facet finishes.
  • Full Progressive Grit Range: Available from coarse 60 grit for fast roughing and pre-forming down to ultra-fine 3000 grit for smooth, scratch-free pre-polish facet alignment.
  • Standard 1/2" Arbor: Compatible with all standard gemstone faceting machines, flat lap grinders, and precision lapidary arbors.

Applications

  • Gemstone Faceting: Roughing, pavilion and crown cutting, facet placement, and pre-polishing on corundum (sapphire, ruby), beryl (emerald, aquamarine), quartz, tourmaline, and garnets.
  • Hard Mineral Shaping: Shaping and surface leveling of tough lapidary cabochons, mineral specimens, and synthetics.
  • Optical & Technical Glass: Precision beveling, planar edge prep, and chamfering on optical components and crystal blanks.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
  • Arbor Size: 1/2 inch (12.7 mm)
  • Abrasive Material: Premium Industrial Diamond
  • Bond Type: Precision Electroplated Bond
  • Base Plate: Solid Aluminum Master Lap
  • Surface Design: Channel Grooved Interrupted Surface
  • Available Grits: 60, 80, 120, 180, 220, 280, 360, 600, 1200, 3000
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 400–1500 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with adequate water drip or recirculating coolant to flush swarf through channels and maximize diamond lifespan.
  • Use light to moderate hand pressure; let the sharp diamond points cut cleanly without bogging down the faceting spindle.
  • Rinse the channels thoroughly after use with clean water and allow to dry before storage to prevent residue accumulation.
