The 6" x 1-1/2" 80 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is a high-efficiency electroplated roughing wheel engineered for lapidary cabbing machines, gemstone preforming, and precision glass cold working. Built with a precision-balanced composite hub and an electroplated 80-grit monocrystalline diamond cutting surface, this wheel bridges heavy stock reduction with controlled initial shaping across agates, jaspers, quartz, petrified wood, and art glass while minimizing sub-surface micro-fracturing.
Key Features
- Aggressive 80 Grit Diamond Coating: Heavy concentration of electroplated monocrystalline diamond particles delivers fast material removal while maintaining clean, chip-resistant gemstone edges.
- Precision-Balanced Hub Construction: Runs smoothly and true at operational speeds, eliminating rotational runout and machine bearing wear.
- Rigid Flat Cutting Face: Maintains a true 1-1/2" flat plane across its face, ideal for squaring cabochon preforms, beveling slab edges, and flattening stone backs.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors seamlessly.
Applications
- Gemstone Preforming & Cabbing: Establishing primary cabochon dome profiles and outline contours on agate, jasper, jade, and quartz.
- Glass Cold Working & Edge Beveling: Removing saw marks, grinding sharp corners, and leveling edges on art glass and optical crystal.
- Mineral Specimen Squaring: Flattening geode slices, fossil displays, and hard rock specimens before fine finishing.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Grit: 80 Grit (Coarse Shaping)
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Bond Type: Heavy-Duty Nickel Electroplated Diamond
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with continuous, generous flood water coolant to lubricate the wheel, suppress dust, and flush rock swarf.
- Apply light to moderate hand contact; allow the diamond abrasive to grind naturally without excessive pushing.
- Store dry and clean after use to keep the diamond abrasive face in optimal cutting condition.
