The 6" x 1-1/2" 60 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is an aggressive, coarse-grit roughing and preforming wheel built for lapidary cabbing machines, gemstone preforming, and heavy glass cold working. Engineered with a balanced composite hub and an electroplated coarse 60-grit monocrystalline diamond surface, this wheel quickly removes excess mineral bulk, grinds sharp slab edges, and establishes rough cabochon outlines across Mohs 5 to 9 materials with exceptional cutting efficiency.

Key Features

  • Coarse 60 Grit Diamond Coating: Heavy-duty diamond particles electroplated in a durable nickel matrix provide maximum material removal speed without wheel loading or glazing.
  • Precision-Balanced Hub Construction: Runs smoothly and true at operating speeds, eliminating rotational chatter and protecting machine bearings.
  • Rigid Flat Cutting Profile: Delivers a consistent 1-1/2" wide flat working face, perfect for squaring slab edges, flattening preform backs, and rapid beveling.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushings to adapt effortlessly to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.

Applications

  • Gemstone Rough Preforming: High-speed stock reduction on hard agates, jaspers, quartz, petrified wood, and jade.
  • Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Rapid stock removal, sharp edge beveling, and bulk waste reduction on thick art glass and crystal.
  • Lapidary Slab Squaring: Flattening and squaring mineral preform blanks before dome shaping.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 60 Grit (Coarse Roughing)
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Heavy-Duty Nickel Electroplated Diamond
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with continuous, generous flood water coolant to lubricate the wheel, suppress dust, and flush rock swarf.
  • Apply light to moderate hand contact; allow the diamond abrasive to grind naturally without excessive pushing.
  • Store dry and clean after use to keep the diamond abrasive face in optimal cutting condition.
