The 8" x 1-1/2" 220 Grit Diamond Radius Spherical Grinding Wheel features a crowned, convex radiused profile engineered for shaping curved contours, rounding preforms, and cabbing gemstones without flat spots or edge facets. Built on a precision-balanced, seamless solid steel core with a high-density electroplated 220-grit diamond rim, this specialty wheel delivers smooth fine shaping and pre-polishing on agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramic, and art glass.
Key Features
- Convex Radiused (Spherical) Profile: Smoothly curved working face conforms naturally to concave surfaces, cabochon dome profiles, and contoured workpiece interiors.
- Fine 220-Grit Diamond Electroplating: Uniform monocrystalline diamond plating removes intermediate scratches, establishing a smooth foundation before resin-bond wheels.
- Heavy-Duty Solid Steel Core: Precision-machined, true-running steel body eliminates vibrational wobble and wheel bounce at standard cabbing speeds.
- Faceting & Flat-Spot Elimination: Continuous radius contour eliminates harsh edge lines and flat marks commonly left by standard flat grinding wheels.
- Cool Wet Grinding Performance: Engineered for continuous water coolant operation to maintain low cutting temperatures and protect heat-sensitive stones.
- Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Precision-bored 1" arbor supplied with durable bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" cabbing and grinding shafts.
Applications
- Gemstone Pre-Polishing & Cabochon Domes: Final electroplated shaping stage for cabochons, refining dome curvatures, and smoothing edges on agate, jasper, and quartz.
- Glass Cold Working & Sculptural Relief: Carving curved recesses, smoothing flutes, and rounding rim contours on blown and kiln-formed art glass.
- Ceramic & Specimen Contouring: Precision radius profiling on technical ceramics, fossil preparation, and geological mineral specimens.
Technical Specifications
- Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
- Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
- Profile: Convex Radiused / Spherical Crown
- Grit: 220 Grit (Fine Shaping / Pre-Polishing)
- Core Material: Solid Precision Steel Core
- Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
- Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
- Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM
Operating Guidelines
- Always operate with adequate continuous water coolant to keep the diamond cool and flush grinding swarf away from the radiused profile.
- Apply light to moderate hand pressure across the curved face, letting the sharp 220-grit diamond do the cutting work.
- Regularly rotate the workpiece along the wheel radius to ensure smooth, uniform curved contours.
