The 8" x 1-1/2" 280 Grit Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is an advanced lapidary pre-polishing wheel engineered for 8-inch vertical arbor cabbing machines and precision glass processing setups. Featuring a continuous 5mm deep solid sintered diamond rim bonded in a resilient bronze matrix, this wheel provides fine scratch eradication and flawless dome smoothing on agate, jasper, quartz, jade, and architectural glass. Operating as the final metal-bonded smoothing step before transitioning to resin wheels or polishing compounds, 280 grit delivers exceptional surface uniformity with pinpoint dimensional control.

Key Features

  • Continuous 5mm Solid Sintered Matrix: Fully impregnated with premium 280-grit monocrystalline diamonds distributed evenly through a 5mm bronze matrix for extended, multi-year operating life.
  • Ultra-Smooth Pre-Polish Finish: Eliminates medium grinding marks and establishes a silky, satin pre-polish texture that drastically cuts down resin-bond sanding time.
  • Self-Sharpening Cutting Action: The continuous wear of the bronze metal binder steadily presents fresh, sharp diamond crystal edges during wet operation.
  • Precision-Balanced Steel Hub: High-precision CNC-machined steel core ensures vibration-free rotation at 1400–1800 RPM, preventing chatter marks and protecting machine bearings.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision bushings to adapt the 1" arbor to 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" shaft sizes.

Applications

  • Cabochon Final Pre-Polishing: Smoothing preformed cabochon crowns, rounding girdles, and perfecting dome symmetry on agate, jasper, tourmaline, and jade.
  • Glass Cold Working & Edge Finishing: Refining cut glass edges, bevels, and sculptural cold-worked surfaces without chipping.
  • Mineral Specimen Prep: Pre-polishing flat display faces, quartz geodes, and petrified wood slabs prior to final mirror polishing.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 280 Grit (Fine Pre-Polish)
  • Diamond Layer Depth: 5 mm
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Sintered Metal (Bronze Matrix)
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with continuous, generous water cooling across the wheel face to prevent friction overheating and clear slurry.
  • Apply light, uniform contact pressure; let the diamond perform the cutting without forcing the stone against the wheel.
  • If the wheel surface glazes over from soft rock residue, dress lightly using an aluminum oxide or silicon carbide dressing stick with water running.
