The 6" x 1-1/2" 360 Grit Sintered Diamond Grinding Wheel (Metal Bonded) is an ultra-durable, high-precision lapidary smoothing wheel designed for standard 6-inch vertical cabbing machines, gemstone pre-polishing, and fine glass cold working. Featuring a 5mm deep continuous sintered diamond matrix bonded with tough bronze metal, this wheel bridges fine shaping with smooth pre-polishing. It consistently eliminates scratch marks left by coarser grits, preparing gemstones and art glass for high-grade resin sanding and cerium oxide polishing without chipping or edge blowout.

Key Features

  • 5mm Deep Solid Sintered Matrix: Industrial diamond particles are integrated throughout a 5mm solid metal matrix layer, offering years of daily commercial operation without wearing down to a base core.
  • Continuous Self-Sharpening Performance: As the metal matrix slowly erodes during grinding, fresh sharp diamond crystals are constantly revealed, delivering uniform cutting action across the entire tool lifespan.
  • Dressable Cutting Face: Can be redressed using a silicon carbide or aluminum oxide dressing stick to maintain a perfectly flat rim and peak abrasive sharpness.
  • Precision-Balanced Steel Hub: True-running hub geometry eliminates vibration and runout at operating speeds (1400–1800 RPM), preserving machine bearings and ensuring smooth workpiece handling.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Includes precision reducer bushings to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors seamlessly.

Applications

  • Fine Gemstone Pre-Polishing: Removing 220/280-grit scratch lines and refining dome geometry on agate, jasper, quartz, jade, and sapphire preforms.
  • Glass Cold Working & Edge Finishing: Creating smooth, satin-finished bevels and leveling edges on art glass, optical prisms, and fused glass.
  • Technical Ceramic & Mineral Smoothing: Precision dimensioning and surface finishing on dense minerals and engineered ceramics.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 6 inches (152 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 360 Grit (Fine Pre-Polishing)
  • Diamond Layer Depth: 5 mm
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Bond Type: Sintered Metal (Bronze Matrix)
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always run with generous, continuous water flood lubrication to dissipate heat, flush mineral swarf, and prevent matrix glazing.
  • Apply light, even touch pressure; allow the high-density diamond abrasive to cut freely without forcing the stone.
  • Dress periodically with a dressing stick when working dense, hard rocks to revive optimal cutting speed.
