The 8" x 1-1/2" 220 Grit Lapidary Diamond Hard Flat Grinding Wheel is a precision intermediate smoothing and refining wheel designed for 8-inch vertical cabbing machines and bench grinding units. Featuring a precision-machined solid steel core coated with premium 220-grit electroplated monocrystalline diamond, this wheel provides true, vibration-free rotation and uniform cutting action. It efficiently erases 100- and 180-grit scratches, establishing smooth contours and accurate flat surfaces on agate, jasper, quartz, jade, ceramic, and art glass prior to resin-bonded sanding and pre-polishing.

Key Features

  • Solid Steel Core Construction: Heavy-duty turned steel core ensures zero runout, absolute planar stability, and vibration-free operation at 1400–1800 RPM.
  • Durable Electroplated Diamond Bond: Premium 220-grit diamond particles are firmly nickel-electroplated across the entire face for uniform wear and long working life.
  • Precision Intermediate Smoothing: Refines shapes and smooths out coarse grinding marks, preparing gemstone cabochon domes and flats for finer finishing stages.
  • True Flat Grinding Surface: Delivers sharp 90-degree corners and flat, uniform grinds on slabs, preforms, and cabochon girdles.
  • Standard 1" Arbor with Reducer Bushings: Bored to 1" and supplied with precision bushing spacers to fit 3/4", 5/8", and 1/2" machine arbors.

Applications

  • Gemstone Cabbing & Pre-Polishing: Smoothing preformed cabochon surfaces and standardizing girdle lines on agate, jasper, quartz, petrified wood, and jade.
  • Glass Cold Working & Beveling: Smoothing glass edges, beveling borders, and eliminating chip marks on art glass projects.
  • Ceramic & Mineral Sizing: Flattening specimen bases, fossil slabs, and dense technical ceramics with accurate control.

Technical Specifications

  • Diameter: 8 inches (200 mm)
  • Width: 1-1/2 inches (38 mm)
  • Grit: 220 Grit (Fine Shaping & Smoothing)
  • Core Material: Solid Steel
  • Bond Type: Electroplated Diamond
  • Arbor Size: 1 inch (includes 3/4", 5/8", 1/2" reducer bushings)
  • Recommended Operating Speed: 1400–1800 RPM

Operating Guidelines

  • Always operate with adequate continuous water coolant to keep the workpiece cool and flush swarf from the diamond surface.
  • Apply light to moderate, uniform hand pressure; let the diamond cut freely without forcing the workpiece against the steel core.
  • Avoid grinding on the corner edges to prevent premature diamond stripping along the rim shoulder.
